Vadsbo Mjölk halved the number of mastitis during the first year at the same time as the use of antibiotics has decreased  Agricam's thermal camera system . Going forward, foreman Henrik is positive about continued digitization and now also has the bacterial classifier Bacticam installed on the farm, and is part of the Vetlink project.

VADSBO  The large farm Vadsbo Mjölk with 1300 cows has since 2013 monitored its crosses' udder health with Agricam's thermal camera system. Henrik Larsson, an experienced foreman who manages the dairy operation at Vadsbo, says that he was able to recoup the investment of the thermal camera system in 1.5 years.

- We had quite a lot of problems with mastitis at that time and so I counted a bit on that. It was no chance draw or major loss for us. We felt it was interesting and thought that if it does not work, it will not work.

Initially, the employees at Vadsbo had to spend some time on the thermal camera system during the development period, but it then became self-propelled. Agricam's thermal camera system automatically performs daily analysis of udder health in connection with milking and identifies the precursor to clinical mastitis by identifying deviating temperatures in the udder.

- The most interesting thing was that we got statistics on our mastitis frequency for 2-3 years when we started with the cameras and you really saw in the first half of the year what happened and how much it dropped.

The most positive thing is that we halved our mastitis the first year. The staff is much happier who does not have to treat a lot of sick cows.

The most positive thing is that we halved our mastitis the first year. The staff is much happier who does not have to treat a lot of sick cows. Then we went up and down a bit after that. There was a time when we did not have a single waiting shoe and then we had organic production with double waiting.

In addition to the thermal cameras, the farm also has the bacterial classifier Bacticam installed.

- I see Bacticam almost as necessary when we join ViLA. But above all to reduce the time between sampling and response. Today it takes at least 4 days before we get an answer and if we get this to work with the AI, you will have the test answers in 24 hours. Then we can put in the right treatment and above all know where we should have the cow in the barn so that she does not spread the infection.

Bacticam enables the cultivation of milk samples directly on the farm by an artificial intelligence reading the cultivation plates. Now during the development stage, SVA reads pictures of the farms and an app logs the test results so that the farmer  and the veterinarian can see patterns in the bacterial distribution at both herd and individual level.

- We will try more now than we did before, especially risks, to get more control. We want to get an overview of which bacteria we are fighting with that can be helpful in deciding what to do for the cow.

Henrik is positive about the rapid progress of digital solutions and believes that without any digital solutions on the farm, it would not work today. Vadsbo is also one of the farms involved in Agricam's development project Vetlink. VetLink is a service that compiles animal data from the farm and on that basis strategy veterinarians develop long-term action proposals

That we with VetLink can create a knowledge base with a veterinarian who has a knowledge bank and experience of the farm - I think that is the right way to go.

- The strategy veterinary part in general, I think is quite interesting. That we with VetLink can create a knowledge base with a veterinarian who has a knowledge bank and experience of the farm - I think that is the right way to go.

Vadsbo Mjölk aims to increase milk production by 10% in one year and keep the herd healthy.

- Here we feel that the thermal camera system and Bacticam will help us find these infectious cows. Quite a big deal in the whole thing. We will increase milk production by increasing cow comfort and ensuring that our cows are well. The goal is for our 1300 cows we currently have to feel even better.

Digitization of the farm is of course a big part, but for Henrik, driven staff is the biggest factor for a successful agriculture.

- If you do not have the staff with you, you can not do anything. Driven and skilled staff is number one!
